Saturday night, Malaysian football will see a titanic battle between its own Reds when the “Red Warriors” of Kelantan take on the “Red Giants” of Selangor in the FA Cup final at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil.While Selangor have been a major force in local football over the years, Kelantan, whose revival has spiced up the footballing scene in the country, will be hunting for their first major silverware in 88 long years.Although the teams will not be featuring any foreign players, the FA of Malaysia (FAM) are expecting a sell-out crowd of 90,000 spectators for the final.
Underdogs Kelantan are bent on making history by capturing their first-ever major trophy since 1921. And they will not be alone – more than 40,000 of their passionate and vociferous fans from all over the country will be at the stadium tonight cheering their team on.
It looks like the whole of Kelantan is gripped by the euphoria of the Cup final, a feeling Selangor coach K. Devan knows very well.
